
As someone who makes a living by helping people buy and sell real estate, I have to be honest, a lot of the recent developments in our city have left me feeling uninspired. I’m not going to name names, but often it seems that Toronto’s collective architectural and development communities have seriously let down our city.

It’s that time of year again. The weather is warming up, the Maple Leafs are booking their tee times (sorry Leafs’ fans), and ‘For Sale’ signs are popping up on front lawns across the city. Yep, the Real Estate season is in full swing. It’s about this time every year that thousands of Torontonians ask themselves, is now a good time to buy? Would I be better off renting?

Yesterday morning, to a surprisingly large gathering of the local media at Panorama, Bazis International revealed its plans for an 80-storey condo tower at Yonge and Bloor. The name for the project? Quite simply, 1 Bloor.

It used to be that a detached, 3-bedroom house with a 2-car garage was seen not so much as a dream to work towards, but a glorious climax to the consumerist life. Not so anymore.
The ever rising cost of housing in the city, along with increasing concern on how our lifestyle and choices affect the environment has got a lot of home buyers asking themselves, ‘how much space do I really need?’.
